Platelet Rich Fibrin Hair Restoration

What is Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Hair Restoration?

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is an advanced form of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), both of which harness natural healing factors found in your bloodstream. When compared to PRP, PRF disperses more slowly, allowing for the body to more effectively utilize its contents. PRF additionally requires less blood to be taken than PRP and provides more optimal concentrations of healing factors. Additionally, PRF uses no anti-coagulants or other chemical additives. With PRP, blood is combined with acid citrate dextrose (an anticoagulant) to prevent it from clotting. PRF on the other hand combines centrifugation (spinning of the blood) with a unique heating and cooling process, meaning that only your blood is used, no other compounds!

What Does a Treatment Look Like?

When you come in for your treatment, your provider will begin by drawing your blood. After applying a topical numbing cream to the regions to be treated, your practitioner will spin the blood in a centrifuge to separate out the PRF. This Platelet Rich Fibrin contains very high concentrations of fibrin and white blood cells, along with a small amount of mesenchymal stem cells. These proteins and growth factors are all constantly circulating in our bloodstreams and used to heal the body when needed. When they’re called to action, platelets attach to the fibrin network and release growth factors responsible for creating new skin cells, collagen, and blood vessels. As you can imagine, once this rich concentrate is introduced back into the body, a cascade of healing and revitalization begins.

How Does PRF Work?

PRF contains platelets, white blood cells, fibrin, and stem cells. Platelets in our blood contain proteins, or growth factors, that increase collagen production, regenerate tissue, tighten skin, rejuvenate texture of the skin, and improve hair regrowth. White blood cells aid in tissue regeneration, and fibrin acts as a scaffolding on which the growth factors attach to allow a longer release of their growth factors. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can turn into specialized cells or become more stem cells. They act as a repair system for the body to replenish adult tissues.

Our team is dedicated to continuing our education in order to offer our patients the newest innovations in aesthetics, such as PRF. Our physician assistant, Sarah Proulx RPA-C, is trained and certified to use PRF to treat hair loss and signs of aging using PRF and PRF EZ Gel.

PRF for Hair Loss

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is effective at reversing baldness and hair loss in both men and women. If you are experiencing any form of hair loss or thinning, you are a good candidate for this treatment. However, PRF is more effective at awakening dormant hair follicles which are still relatively healthy and capable of growing hair. Therefore, this type of hair restoration can be more effective for patients who are still in the early phases of hair loss.

Three or four treatments are recommended, spaced one month apart. Along witht subsequent maintenance treatments, if needed.

PRF for Under Eyes

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a natural solution to improve the appearance of areas which can be difficult to treat with other cosmetic procedures. One of these regions is under the eyes, commonly referred to as “tear troughs”. By injecting PRF, you are able to brighten and smooth this sagging, under-eye hallowing that occurs with age. When injected as an under eye filler, PRF is an all-natural way to improve under eye pigmentation and tone, it also enhances skin firmness, texture, and thickness

PRF EZ Gel

PRF EZ Gel is a completely natural, regenerative, and volumizing filler that is made from your own blood. After your practitioner draws your blood, it is spun in a centrifuge and heated to isolate albumin and growth factors. This process simply relies on gravitational seperation and temperature changes, without the addition of chemicals or unnatural modifications. Your practitioner will then mix the growth factors contained within liquid PRF with the albumin of your plasma, creating a gel-like substance. This gel is super concentrated with growth factors that stimulate the regenerative process of diverse cell types and tissues.

Patients can produce up to 5 syringes which are then injected similarly to a dermal filler. This mixture stimulates collagen production, reducing the signs of aging and the appearance of acne scars. It is incredibly versatile and can be used in multiple locations of the face– tear troughs, cheeks, crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, chin, marionette lines, lips, and jawline, to name a few. After your treatment, the extended release of growth factors and other biostimulants will continue to enhance your results.

We recommend patients complete two treatments six to eight weeks apart.
